The
junior county badminton section is a sub section of
the DSSA (Derbyshire Schools Sports Association)
which oversees all of the various county sports
teams. Having said that we are essentially self
governed by a committee comprising entirely of
players parents. We are self funded apart from a
very small grant from the DSSA (Derbyshire Schools
Sports Association which is the umbrella
organisation for the various sports that represent
the county) All of our regular coaches, team
managers and other helpers are unpaid volunteers.
Coaches in particular (+ other helpers) give up
Saturday afternoons to run county training and team
managers organise and run week night sessions. The
organisation structure of the club is available
for viewing.

The
Derbyshire junior county badminton organisation's primary aim is to
facilitate in the development of children and young adults who are eligible
to play for Derbyshire (conforming to the Badminton England rules) in the sport of
badminton using structured methods. This is to be achieved within a fun and
friendly atmosphere.
Derbyshire junior county badminton is
entirely run
by
volunteers and we see ourselves as an open county
encouraging volunteers, sponsorship, criticism, advice and
funding and believe in equal opportunities for all.

Squads
are determined by age groups. The Shires League
follow Badminton England age structuring and are
split into the following age groups:- Under 13,
Under 15 and Under 17. There are also events for
Under 11's too but no league.
North Midway Badminton League (NMBL) was original
set up to provide matches for players who have moved
up an age group but cannot make it into that
particular team. Consequently these age groups are
Under 12, Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18.
Derbyshire
Junior County Badminton use the Badminton England
age groupings in order to organise training
sessions, tournaments, reporting etc. It would not
be manageable to organise by each year group.
However we do participate in both the above leagues
and other events organised by governing bodies.

To
compete with the other counties, development of
young players is essential. This has to be an
on-going service and to this effect we have
introduced a controlled structure with organised
coaching sessions to facilitate for pre-county
children, allowing a progression into county
badminton. This starter group is predominantly
younger children but older children are also
encouraged if they have county aspirations.
We have several qualified coaches that help develop
the technical and tactical abilities of the players.
We see development of players throughout the age
groups as the key to a successful county setup. This
structured approach provides a framework in which
younger players can flourish and enjoy the game of
badminton. |
